Mortise and Hinge

Mortise -

A rectangular cavity in the stile for inserting the hinge, thus allowing a tighter fit to the side of the window, hang strip, or between panels. All hinges, including interpanel hinges, are mortised into the shutter.

Hinge -
A two leaf device that connects a shutter to the mounting surface or joins two shutters together. The hinge shown is one of many hinges we use.
